I wanted this Winged Lion relief to feel connected to my other ancient symbol pieces. The square frame, carved style, and guardian theme make it easy to display on its own, but it also pairs beautifully with pieces like the Lamassu, Persepolis Guard, Double Bull Capital, or Lion and Bull relief.
This winged lion-griffin is inspired by the palace art of Persepolis, the Achaemenid royal complex founded by Darius the Great. Figures like this belonged to a world of stone reliefs, columns, and royal spaces designed to feel powerful, lasting, and meaningful. I wanted this carving to bring a small piece of that ancient palace feeling into a home, office, bookshelf, or personal collection.
Each relief is carved from solid beech wood. I use CNC carving to create the main shape and raised depth, then hand-sand the surface and edges for a clean finished feel. Laser detailing brings out the wing feathers, body lines, face, tail, and border. The piece is finished with shellac to give the wood a warm natural tone and help protect the surface.
This 7" x 7" x 0.5" carved wood relief is easy to place on a bookshelf, desk area, entryway, hallway, home office, or personal wall. I use the same square frame style across many of my wall art pieces, so this design can stand alone or become part of a small collection of carved symbols that feel connected, balanced, and personal.
Personalization is available on the back of the piece. Text only. Add a name, date, short message, family note, milestone, memorial message, or meaningful phrase.
