Athena can mean something different to someone who wants a strong female figure in their home. She represents a woman known for wisdom, courage, leadership, and knowing when to stand her ground. For someone who connects with female strength and independence, this carving can be more than Greek mythology. It can be a piece that reminds them that strength does not always have to be loud.
The design brings together many of the symbols connected with Athena, including her helmet, spear, shield, owl, olive branches, and the small figure of Victory. Carved into solid wood, those details give the piece depth and make Athena feel present in the room rather than looking like a flat image on the wall.
I carve each piece from solid beech wood using CNC, then hand-sand the surface and edges for a clean finished feel. Laser detail helps bring out Athena’s face, clothing, helmet, spear, shield, owl, columns, olive branches, and smaller lines. I finish the wood with shellac to help protect the surface while keeping the natural grain visible.
This 7" x 7" x 0.5" wall art has enough detail to stand on its own, but it can also be paired with other mythology, history, or ancient symbol pieces from my shop to build a small collection over time.
