I created this Garshasp and Azhdaha relief for someone who is drawn to heroic stories, ancient Persian mythology, and the idea of standing against destructive forces. The mounted archer facing the dragon gives the piece movement, tension, and purpose, making it one of the more dramatic scenes in the collection.
In Persian mythology, the Azhdaha is often understood as a dragon-like force connected with chaos, danger, and destruction. Garshasp represents the hero who faces that force, not just for glory, but to restore balance and protect what matters. To me, this scene carries a message of courage, duty, and resolve when something difficult has to be confronted.
The piece starts as solid beech wood and is CNC-carved to shape the mounted archer, horse, dragon, landscape details, and layered relief. After carving, I hand-sand the surface and edges, then add laser detail to sharpen the figures, movement, and smaller lines of the scene. A shellac finish gives the wood a warm natural tone and helps protect the surface.
This 7" x 7" x 0.5" carved wall art can be displayed on a gallery wall, shelf display, study wall, office space, or beside other mythology and heritage-inspired pieces.
Personalization is available on the back of the piece. Text only. Add a name, date, short message, family note, milestone, memorial message, or meaningful phrase.
