I wanted this Roman Aquila relief to feel like a small piece of ancient Rome carved into wood. The eagle, SPQR lettering, and balanced standard design give it a sense of honor, loyalty, and disciplined strength, the kind of piece that fits naturally in a study, office, library, or history lover’s space.
The Roman Aquila was the eagle standard of a Roman legion and one of the most important symbols connected to Roman military identity. SPQR stands for Senatus Populusque Romanus, meaning “The Senate and People of Rome.” Together, the eagle and SPQR represent honor, loyalty, civic duty, and the structure that held Roman public life together.
The piece starts as solid beech wood and is CNC-carved to shape the eagle, wings, wreath elements, and SPQR panel. After carving, I hand-sand the surface and edges, then add laser detail to sharpen the feathers, lettering, and small relief lines. A shellac finish gives the wood a warm natural tone and helps protect the surface.
This 7" x 7" x 0.5" carved wall art can be displayed in a study, office, library, bookshelf, history room, or personal space where ancient Roman art and meaningful symbols feel at home.
Personalization is available on the back of the piece. Text only. Add a name, date, short message, family note, milestone, memorial message, or meaningful phrase.
Please see the Font Options image and enter your personalization text exactly as you would like it engraved on the back.
