I made this Sacred Tree and Apkallu relief for someone who wants their space to hold more than decoration. I was drawn to the mirrored figures, central tree, and calm symmetry because they carry a feeling of balance, wisdom, and guardianship that can quietly anchor a room.

The Sacred Tree is one of the important motifs found in Assyrian relief art. It is often understood as a symbol of continuity, life, and the careful balance that holds things together. The Apkallu figures beside the tree are guardian-like sages, shown in a mirrored composition as if they are watching over and tending to what is sacred and important.

The piece starts as solid beech wood and is CNC-carved to shape the winged figures, central tree, border details, and layered relief. After carving, I hand-sand the surface and edges, then add laser detail to sharpen the smaller lines in the wings, clothing, tree branches, and facial features. A shellac finish gives the wood a warm natural tone and helps protect the surface.

This 7" x 7" x 0.5" carved wall art can be displayed in a study, office, entryway, hallway, shelf display, or heritage-focused space where meaningful symbols and ancient art feel at home.
