The Sacred Tree is a central motif in Assyrian art, frequently depicted in palace reliefs as a structured and ordered form associated with continuity, balance, and the maintenance of royal authority. It appears in compositions that emphasize symmetry and control, reflecting a worldview in which order is preserved through ritual and disciplined structure.
In this relief, the Sacred Tree is flanked by Apkallu, protective figures often understood as sages or guardians within Assyrian tradition. They are shown in a formal, mirrored composition, holding ritual objects and performing gestures directed toward the tree. This arrangement reflects acts of purification and preservation, reinforcing the idea that order is actively maintained rather than passively sustained.
The composition is not narrative, but symbolic. The tree stands at the center as a structured form of continuity, while the Apkallu serve as intermediaries who uphold and protect that order. The image aligns with its original context in Assyrian palace reliefs, where such scenes conveyed authority, stability, and the controlled structure of the imperial world.
Each piece is carved from solid beech wood using precision CNC carving, then carefully hand-sanded and laser-detailed to preserve the layered structure, fine detailing, and symmetry of the relief. A traditional shellac finish enhances the natural character of the wood while providing long-term protection and a smooth, refined surface.
The relief measures 7" × 7" × 0.5", making it suitable for display in a home, office, or workspace where structured design and historical symbolism can be appreciated.
Each piece is made from natural solid wood. Grain patterns, tone variation, and small natural markings will vary from piece to piece as part of the material’s character.
Personalization is available on the back of the piece. Text only. A name, date, or short message may be engraved to mark a meaningful connection or occasion.
