I created this Shirdal Griffin relief for someone who wants a piece that feels protective, powerful, and rooted in ancient symbolism. The lion body, wide wing, and eagle-like head give the figure a strong guardian presence, the kind of piece that can make an entryway, office, study, or personal space feel more intentional.
The Shirdal is often understood as a Persian guardian form related to the griffin. It brings together the strength of the lion and the sharp watchfulness of a bird of prey. That combination is what makes the symbol feel so steady to me. It is not just a mythical creature. It carries a sense of protection, authority, and watching over what matters.
The piece starts as solid beech wood and is CNC-carved to shape the lion body, raised wing, eagle-like head, tail, and framed relief. After carving, I hand-sand the surface and edges, then add laser detail to sharpen the feathers, face, and smaller carved lines. A shellac finish gives the wood a warm natural tone and helps protect the surface.
This 7" x 7" x 0.5" carved wall art can be displayed in an entryway, office, study, bookshelf, hallway, or heritage-focused space where guardian symbols and ancient art feel meaningful.
