The Shirdal, or winged lion, is an ancient guardian symbol used in royal and architectural reliefs of the ancient Persian world. Combining the strength of the lion with the elevated authority of wings, it represents protection, vigilance, and sovereign power. This form was placed at thresholds and important spaces as a visual statement of order and guardianship rather than decoration.
This relief is created as a symbolic artifact, not as a narrative scene. The Shirdal stands as a composite guardian figure, meant to convey stability, authority, and watchfulness. It is a symbol intended to endure, reflecting values of protection and permanence rather than a moment or story.
Each piece is carved from solid beech wood using precision CNC carving, followed by careful hand sanding and detailed finishing. The relief is designed to emphasize depth, balance, and clarity, allowing the form to read clearly from a distance while rewarding closer viewing. A natural shellac finish is applied to protect the surface and highlight the character of the wood without altering its tone.
The piece measures approximately 7 x 7 inches with a thickness of about half an inch. Its square format and framed relief style make it suitable for display on a wall, shelf, or within a curated collection of symbolic or historical art. This is a piece meant to be placed intentionally, not used as casual decor.
Each piece is made from natural solid wood. Grain patterns, tone variation, and small natural markings will vary from piece to piece and are part of the material’s character.
